The Chamber announced our position this week against warrant article 20 of the upcoming Town Meeting. The proposed ban on foie gras would establish a precedent where the Town would be able to regulate what you choose to consume and what restaurants decide to put on their menus. While we share the petitioner’s concerns about the production of foie gras we do not believe Brookline should pick and choose what foods it finds objectionable and attempt to ban them. This policy is bad for local businesses and has already played a role in the closure of one restaurant. We strongly urge town meeting members to vote No Action on this warrant article.
