I hope this email finds you well.
My name is Susan Healy and I am a long-time business owner of HC Studio on Station
Street in the Village. I’m not sure if you are aware of the current proposal with the
Washington Street Complete Streets Project, I am emailing to inform you that we are in
jeopardy of losing 61% of the existing parking on Washington Street in the Village and
losing 46% of the existing parking from Washington Square to Station Street. This will have
a far-reaching negative impact on businesses all along Washington Street, Brookline Village
and Washington Square.
This will most definitely change the landscape of the Washington Street Corridor and
will impact the Village and Washington Square businesses and residents. We all know
how tough it is now to find available parking, but with these proposed changes it will
have negative impacts on our businesses, the business district for deliveries access and
our residents. Brookline Village will essentially become a throughway. In some areas there
will actually be nowhere to stop or park. From Holden to Harvard there will be NO
parking at all!
If you think that your voice doesn’t matter, I am here to tell you that it does, and even more
impactful when multiple voices are heard. I urge you to please take one or both of the
following action steps if this poses a concern for your business. If this project does not
directly affect your business please also consider that your actions will help your fellow
business neighbors, as some business futures will be in great jeopardy if this project goes
through as it is currently proposed:
1. Top Priority Please attend an upcoming meeting in person on Thursday
August 8 th between 3:00 & 4:00 pm at the Brookline Library in Hunneman Hall to
show your concern. (if you cannot attend yourself consider sending somebody to represent
your business, both myself and Sara from Cadeau will be there from 3-7 that day so
anytime during that time frame is perfect, but we are trying to get most businesses there
between 3-4 pm – we are happy to greet and guide – physical representation is so
important)
2. Please send a short list of bullet points outlining your concerns and how this project will
impact your business to the select board and the transportation department as soon as
possible. This does not need to be anything fancy at all, a quick email is all that is needed.
Any information is better than no information.

In closing, I have been doing business in Brookline like many of you for 24 years and have
dealt with many obstacles over the years. This is the first time; however, I feel that the
livelihood of my business is actually at risk. Please, let’s come together and let our voices
be heard – our future depends on it! I thank you in advance for your support and your
actions!
